Design & Technology

“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” (Steve Jobs)

Our Vision for Design and Technology

At Long Buckby Infant school, it is our intention that, through a practical curriculum, all children are taught to safely use and explore a variety of materials tools and techniques and to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding.

Implementation

Design and Technology is an important part of the curriculum as it lets children use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts across the curriculum. It develops many important skills from across the curriculum (such as maths, art, science and computing), and can bring learning to life as it is such a practical subject. We appreciate the whole process of designing, making and evaluating their products, not just an end product, as it allows children to make informed choices and take risks as they develop their ideas.

Impact

Through our curriculum, we aim for our children to leave our school equipped with key life skills and an understanding of the key processes of planning, making and evaluating. Through the experiences and opportunities on offer, we provide our children with the enthusiasm and curiosity for the next phase of their education.
