Pole to Pole

Stunning Starter!

On our first day back to school we went into an assembly to talk about the New Year. Suddenly we heard a loud noise from outside and to our surprise saw that there was lots of smoke rising past the windows. We rushed to look outside and saw big giant, snowy footprints, and lots of different animals which we decided must be from the artic.

When we got back to our classrooms there was a huge block of ice. We had to decide the best way to melt the ice to see if there were more clues inside for our new topic.

After trying many different ways to melt and break and the ice we eventually found a polar bear and a note from him saying he had lost his friend the penguin. We are now busy trying to figure out how to find penguin.

We are so excited to find out lots about our new topic Pole to Pole!

Please see the attached Newsletter and Term Overview for more information.

Science

Finding out about different materials and their properties

In science we have been looking at natural and man made materials. We had great fun in our science lesson, grouping materials in different ways.

We then carried out some science investigations, Discovery Dog set us a challenge to find out which material absorbs the liquid the best, after Naughty Nora had a little accident. We planned the investigation and talked about what must be the same and what would we change?

We then talked about how materials change when they are heated. We planned an exciting toast experiment to observe the changes to bread when it is heated. We had great fun working on this experiment and enjoyed having a little taste.
